A superb all round performance by Team India helped them beat deafening champions England by 90 runs in their group match today.

Earlier England won the toss and elected to field first. India opened with Irfan Pathan in the absense of Virender Sehwag but Pathan could not contribute much as he was out after scoring just 8 runs. This brought the most consistent Indian batsman Virat Kohli who along with Gautam Gambhir took the team score past 50 run mark. Kohli was the next wicket to fell after scoring 40. Rohit Sharma then came to center and took the charge. He and Gautam Gambhir hammered England bowlers and took the team score past 100 run mark. Some good hitting in the slog overs helped India post a huge total of 170/4 in 20 overs. Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant 55 off 33 balls which included 5 fours and 1 six.

Chasing 171 to win, England lost the first wicket in the very first over. Soon Irfan Pathan striked again and took the second wicket reducing England to 18/2. Dhoni then gave the ball to Harbhajan Singh who didnt dissapoint the captain. He got the wicket in his very first over and was at his bowling best today. Harbhajan (4 wickets) and Chawla (2 wickets) wipped the entire England middle order. From 18/2 they were reduced to 60/9. Finally England were all out for 80 in 14.4 overs thereby loosing the match by 90 runs.

In the 6th match of T20 World Cup, England All-rounder Luke Wright’s 99 not out helped England register a 116 runs win over Afghanistan. England was asked to bat first by Afghanistan and the bowlers striked in the very first over as C Kieswetter got out for a duck. But Luke Wright’s 55-ball 99 not out (8×4, 6×6) helped them post a huge total of 196/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 197 to win, Afghanistan lost 8 wickets for just 26 runs. From 26/8 in 9 overs, Afghanistan managed to score 80/10 in 17.2 overs thanks to G Naib’s brilliant 44 off 32 balls.

Today in the 6th match of T20 World Cup 2012, Stuart Broad’s England will start the campaign against minnows Afghanistan at the Premadasa Stadium. Afghanistan who had impressed one and all in their last match against India will be hoping to improve their performance and beat the defending champions.

England who will be playing without star batsman Kevin Pietersen will be hoping to start their campaign with a winning note so that they can get the required morale booster for their upcoming matches. Also they will be willing to prove that England is capable of defending the championship even without Kevin Pietersen.

On the other hand, it will be a do or die for Afghanistan as if they loose today’s match, they will be out of the championship.

Stylish England Star Kevin Pietersen is out of England’s Twenty20 squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka next month. The career of Pietersen looks almost over after he admitted sending provocative text messages.

“He played superbly in our last Twenty20 World Cup, but the circumstances that exist at the moment mean that he can’t be selected for us,” England team director Andy Flower told Sky Sports television.

In 2010, Pietersen was awarded the player of the tournament and it was due to his superb performance, England won the T20 World Cup 2010. This time around, he will surely be missed.
